"HPR has saved my life. I have been with their program for almost two years. You will never find a better staff who is always on your side battling with you. Believe me, if you take the first step and start with HPR, your life will change tremendously, for the better." ~ Actual patient testimonial
How it works.
A person with an Addiction Disorder is not morally different than a person with a medical condition such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Their diseases may behave differently. They may have genes that make them more likely to have their disease. A Heroin/Opiate Addict needs to treat his withdrawal, so that he feels “kind of normal” to keep going on with his life. A person with diabetes has his insulin or pills to control his blood sugar level, so he can be “normal” and be able to carry on his daily activities.
Now we have safer, modern ways to control the opioid withdrawal symptoms. The addicted patient can take the daily prescribed medicine to feel normal, legal, and safe. There is little difference between a heroin addict who has relapsed and used illegally obtained drugs and a diabetic person who does not stick to a proper diet.
We believe that no one wants to take drugs to become an addict, or purposely eats lots of rare meat to get Coronary Artery Disease, or smoke cigarettes to get lung cancer. But sometimes our habits and activities create problems we must address.
Initially, people may use them to treat a painful condition, “just for fun”, or “to get high” with friends etc..., then just after a few months, the fun is no longer there. The pain from withdrawal is unbearable, and they have to find ways, legally or more often illegally, to control these awful symptoms of withdrawal. They know that by continued use they put their life at great risk, jeopardize their jobs, family relationships, financial status, and possibly go to jail. Most heroin addicted persons know someone who has died from using heroin, but this alone is not enough to stop them from continued use.
Helping People Recover was opened for one single purpose, to help people overcome heroin or prescription opioid/opiates addiction. The original physicians of this clinic are board certified in Addiction Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice and Internal Medicine with years of experience in treating Opioid Addiction using Medication Assisted Treatment.
We also offer Vivitrol treatment protocols to certain patients who are candidates to address their cravings from opiates (as well as alcohol.)
We follow strict guidelines for Opioid Agonist and Partial Agonist Therapy using buprenorphine. This medication will help addicted patients to feel normal in a very safe way, without any excessive sedation, cardiac side effects, hormonal abnormalities, or risk of respiratory failure (if used as prescribed).

NOTE*
- In order to achieve complete recovery, patients must have drug counseling and/or family counseling, in addition to their medication-assisted therapy. We have a qualified, licensed counselor on staff at the cost of $50 per session should you choose "HPR" as your provider. We also recommend adding other sober supports and perhaps a 12-step program to help seal one's recovery. The more counseling and support meetings, the longer the period of sobriety. (Counseling is MANDATORY at HPR and by Ohio law as of December 23, 2018.)
- At Helping People Recover, we also understand your concerns for the end of your treatment. We realize you have fears of falling back into old habits after investing your time and money in getting healthy. We have created a "Transitional Program" in our counseling services to give you the skills to help you when you embark on this exciting phase of recovery. We also have created a handbook that we can give to you to offer support, exercises, skills, and information that will help you remain educated, comfortable, and proactive in managing your recovery.
- Blood and urine screen services available onsite. We work with local labs for rapid testing results.
- We are fee for service. At this time, we are not contracted with any insurance companies, including Medicare or Medicaid. However, this may change in the future. Due to our low over head cost, we can provide our services at a reasonable rate, which is comparable or less than other facilities. HOWEVER, we can help you get reimbursed from your insurance company. Ask us how!
